The 2008 EAS technical program will highlight the
many ways analytical chemists contribute to the well
being and success of the communities around them and
participate in problem solving across a multitude of
scientific fields. The program will be solidly rooted in
topics of concern in today’s world such as biofuels,
counterfeit drugs, environmental problems, food safety,
and the new challenges facing analytical chemistry in a
global economy.
Invited sessions will reflect the growing presence of
vibrational spectroscopy in industrial applications,
highlighting developments in portable instrumentation.
Also included will be strong programs in Separation
Science, Mass Spectrometry, and NMR. The pharmaceutical
analysis sessions will emphasize bioanalysis,
automation, metabonomics, and the concept of quality by
design. This year’s theme in the art and conservation
sessions will be mobile instrumentation. Other
applications will comprise forensics, surface science,
catalysts, biology, immunochemistry, and industrial
hygiene. Sensors, electrochemistry, chemometrics, and
microscopy will also be represented.
To complement the invited program, EAS offers
contributed presentations in both oral and poster
format. Contributed sessions are a central part of the
program and year after year demonstrate the dynamism of
the analytical chemistry community. It is your
opportunity to share your research and applications with
other scientists, hear new ideas, keep current with
technical developments, and learn from your colleagues.
EAS is also your source for continuing education through
our offerings of short courses and workshops. Check the
EAS website at www.EAS.org often for news on abstract
submission deadlines and other important information.
I invite you to join us for another successful
symposium where we will focus on addressing the issues
and questions from the supplier to the end-user,
offering the most practical information that will
provide immediate benefits to you.
