Creating a Better Tomorrow
Kate Jackson Fletcher, EAS 2008 President
I have to tell you that I get a little excited this time
of year. It’s not just that spring is here and
summer is coming soon. As I write this message, I
have just turned the clocks ahead in accordance with
daylight savings time. Getting an extra hour of
daylight is such a pleasant surprise after months of
going to and from work in the dark. I have the
same number of hours in the day and days in the week but
I seem to get so much more accomplished in the daylight.
Maybe it is the energy of spring – budding trees and
flowers. All that new life is invigorating.
So it doesn’t surprise me at all that I think about EAS
this time of year. I know we still have seven months to
go before the commencement of the conference, but I get
energized just thinking about it. EAS comes at a
time of year when most of us have just finished
Halloween, are working out the Thanksgiving menu and
have started buying Christmas presents. At work,
it’s nearing year end so objectives must be completed
and we need to begin thinking about what to do next
year. I don’t know about you, but all that can
make for a hectic time. I look forward to EAS - I
get inspired to focus on what it is that I need to do
and I get ideas for new projects and objectives.
And I’m always amazed by the quality of the program, the
quantity of technical sessions, the magnitude of our
exposition, and the multitude of educational
opportunities our volunteers compile.
So mark your calendars for November 17th
to 20th and get ready to be inspired. Join us in
Somerset, NJ, for the 47th meeting of EAS. The
technical program runs Monday through Thursday with some
education opportunities beginning on Sunday. Our
exposition will be open Monday through Wednesday.
Check our hours of operation for all that EAS has to
offer. Peruse the April Retort and our upcoming
Preliminary Program for items that may surprise you: our
employment bureau, our seminars for high school
teachers, and our undergraduate student award winners.
See if you know our EAS Award winners or if there is a
speaker from your company or alma mater that you
recognize.
Whatever your analytical discipline, I
am sure that you can benefit from our specialized
meeting. We try hard to provide relevant information and
to deliver that to you in a convenient location.
We strive to offer appropriate training courses for
those in the analytical and allied sciences and still
allow time for you to take advantage of the other
segments of our meeting.
We make every effort to offer the
current topics that will keep you coming back year after
year. We hope to see you in November!
